Let’s get right to it! This week’s verse is Joshua 24:15b, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” This is a popular verse. You can find it printed on plaques, painted on reclaimed wood, highlighted in Bibles, and even painted on the walls of many homes. It’s a statement of faith. A family’s affirmation, commitment and covenant to serve the Lord. You and I both know that it’s not enough just to display the verse in our homes. It takes action and daily dedication. Service to God goes beyond declaration. It even goes beyond filtering our daily activities and attitudes.
As you sit around the table this Thanksgiving, I want to challenge you to brainstorm with your family different ways you can serve the Lord. What will that look like in 2022? How can your daily actions and mindset represent Christ? Are there any habits that need to be eliminated that keep you from serving the Lord?
And let me take it a step beyond just your own mindset and actions: are you connected to a body of other believers? In Romans 12 we learn the importance of coming together as one body, and how the church finds fulness using our different gifts. If you aren’t actively serving alongside others then you’re not fully using the gifts God gave you to serve Him! Your church NEEDS you, and you need them! Let me encourage you to read Romans 12 with your family, too. This chapter might help you think of additional ways your home can serve the Lord.
As we come into the final stretch of the year, I also wanted to thank you for taking this journey with me. I’m focused on gratitude this Thanksgiving week, and my heart is so grateful for YOU. You have held me accountable, challenged me, prayed for me and encouraged me over the last 47 weeks. May God bless your home with joy, laughter, and memory making this week!
Know you are loved,
