I’m writing this blog post with tangled feelings. Today is a day of rejoicing! Easter is a time for celebrating life; the life that is blooming around us and the life that we have in Christ. This is a day where the world focuses on the gift Jesus gave to us by taking on our sin, so that we might have eternal life. He has risen and with that comes the promise of life with Him now and forever. My heart is light with that hope of eternal life.
At the same time, my heart is heavy with the sorrow of loss. Yesterday, friends of mine, the Glover Family, lost their 15 year old son, AJ. He was a precious young man with a strong faith in God. This was unexpected and tragic, yet their faith and love for the Lord has stayed strong. Their strength is rooted in the hope of this promised eternal life. As a distant friend, I can offer no comfort to the Glover family. What I can do is pray that God comforts them and gives them peace that only He can provide.
Christ has given us an inheritance that will NEVER perish, spoil or fade. Cling to this hope; it is the light that gets us through the dark seasons. This promise is the spring when we are in our winters. When my heart is grieving loss of a life here, I remember that this world is not our home. We have been promised a home and life with God through Jesus’ sacrifice. Jesus rose so that we could rise as well.
This week, let’s rejoice and be grateful for the gift of salvation through Jesus. One day, we will meet again in heaven because the Son of God gave himself as a sacrifice to pay for our sins.
I hope your cup is overflowing with joy and gratitude for this gift of today. Live this week in the moment, and don’t take the little joys God sends your way for granted. I’ll be hugging my boys a little longer, and thanking God for the great mercy He has given us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Know you are loved,
