Does anyone else have Corona fatigue? I don’t mean the actual virus; I just mean are you OVER the all-consuming fighting and politics that dominate social media and the news? I was venting and externally processing the madness around me this week with my mom. She’s always said “When you go to extremes, you get extremes.” (I believe she used the phrase in the context of raising children, but I’ve found it a helpful reminder in many areas of my life.)
Anyway, we are a country of extremes right now; a country divided. Left vs right, vax vs anti-vax, pro mask vs no mask…. I could keep going, but pointing out all the areas of division would just get more depressing. The devil works through fear and division…and here we are, divided and fearful. It can seem hopeless at times.
How can a group of people who all love and serve the same God be so very divided? My mom reminded me that people need to know that God is totally in control. He is sovereign. He has ultimate power. No situation is hopeless.
With so much dividing us, I wanted to call our attention to something hope-giving that we can agree on: God’s supreme ability to create good from dire situations. Growing up I often listened to the music group Acappella. (Thanks Church of Christ.) The song ‘Now to Him’, based on Ephesians 3:20, is a favorite. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” What a beautiful reminder! God is able to do so much more than we can even imagine, and HIS power is at work within US!
In overwhelming circumstances, it’s easy to lose hope. We often say “we have no control over this” or “we can’t change that”, and in a way I guess that can be true. BUT… God DOES have control, and he CAN change things because He is KING! His power is at work within US. Listen to the song linked below each day this week, and it’s my hope that this verse will help us shift from fatigue to hope, as we reflect on God’s sovereignty.
